There are two types of group training available:-

First is a 4-week course consisting of (approx) 1-hour sessions held on the same day at the same time each week (these vary), I offer Beginner and Intermediate workshops.

Second is one-off 90-minute behaviour-specific workshops covering either loose lead walking or recall. There are also follow-up workshops for you to reinforce and strengthen new skills as well as set new strategies, if needed.

In the Beginners course, we will discuss and practise basic manners and behaviours Including how to attain those through primarily reward-based training, the timing and types of rewards, and setting boundaries using distraction, redirection and appropriate correction for unwanted behaviours.

The behaviours we will primarily cover will be;

Loose lead walking, including desensitisation to exciting triggers such as other dogs

Recall – ensure this is a positive, fun behaviour, for both you and your dog, and to ensure your dog doesn’t learn to ignore your recall.

Sit, stay and wait and why they are important.

Impulse control games. To help you to teach your dog not to chase cats, hares etc.

We will also discuss and practice, where possible, manners and long-term aims for a well-mannered family dog, such as meeting strangers and other dogs, visitors to the home and unwanted barking or nervousness.

I will show you how your dog should meet and greet other dogs and how to ensure it goes smoothly.

Other issues as needed by individuals that arise in the group discussions

The intermediate course covers the above but emphasises practice and taking these skills to the next level.

The workshops focus on understanding how and why your dog reacts to both your body language and energy and the world around them. We will learn how to ask the dog to interact with us and the world calmly and how to support your dog.

The workshops focus on understanding how and why your dogs reacts to both your body language and energy and the world around them. We will learn how to ask the dog to interact with us and the world calmly and how to support your dog.

In the workshops you will learn:

How to teach a specific basic command to our dogs (such as loose lead walking or recall)

Make that behaviour fun for your dog and build a solid bond with them.

How to progress the command to cues around distractions.

Emergency protocols.

These are real-world training sessions with lots of explanations and support in a controlled environment.

My promise

Either in a series of sessions, or in private individual lessons, (see links below) I aim to demonstrate, and help you learn, that we can communicate boundaries with our dogs in much the same way that we communicate with other people in our daily lives; primarily by reward-based training and the control of resources and consequences of actions, for both the dog and yourself. We will also discover that it is acceptable to ask the dog not to do certain things, but in a non-aggressive way, to help the dogs understand what we don’t consider acceptable. We will further find that we can encourage or suppress certain behaviours with both positive and negative reinforcement and thereby communicate with dogs in an affirmative way.
